Our wines – The VDP classification
The classification of the VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter, the 200 best wineries in Germany, is based on geographical origin. The basis is formed by estate wines, where, in addition to the region – in this case Kaiserstuhl – the name of the winery guarantees the quality.
These are followed by the local wines: here, all grapes come from a specific district, e.g. Burkheim or Jechtingen.
For wines in the Erste Lage category, only grapes from a specific single vineyard such as Burkheimer Feuerberg or Sasbacher Limburg are vinified.
Within these single vineyards, precisely defined ‘prime locations’ can be identified. These Grand Cru vineyards are demarcated by parcel and bear the historical vineyard names from the land register. Due to their small geographical origin, the Grand Cru wines from these premium vineyards each have their own unique characteristics. A prime example is the Kesselberg in the Burkheimer Feuerberg.
